Myers<\/a>, owner of Cleveland\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/cleveland.about.com\/od\/clevelandhistory\/ig\/Historic-Photos-of-Cleveland\/Historic-Photos-Hollenden-Hous.--3U.htm\">Hollenden Hotel<\/a>\u2019s barbershop, who is often described as a \u201cone-man clearinghouse\u201d between the African American citizens of Cleveland and the Republican Party.\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n<pre>\u201c`I shaved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohiohistorycentral.org\/entry.php?rec=265\"><strong>President McKinley<\/strong><\/a> when he was governor and since and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohiohistorycentral.org\/entry.php?rec=200\"><strong>Senator Hanna<\/strong><\/a><strong> is<\/strong> my very good friend and corresponds with me about colored men who are seeking office. Do you see that card on the wall?\u00a0 That was given to me by the famous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.online-literature.com\/elbert-hubbard\/\">Elbert Hubbard<\/a> who always stops at this hotel and comes in here to be shaved.\u2019\r\n\r\n`Does he ever get a hair cut?\u2019 asked Seaton.\r\n\r\n`Not here, laughed the barber,\u2019 in appreciation of the joke. `I suppose he gets it cut once or twice a year, but he\u2019s never had it done here.\u2019\r\n\r\nSeaton glanced at the handsomely framed oblong of cardboard, painted in fancy letters in alternating red and black, and reading `The best barbershop in the United States\u2019, followed by the well-known signature of the genial <a href=\"http:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/cdm\/ref\/collection\/tc\/id\/63599\">Fra Elbertus<\/a>.\r\n\r\n`I\u2019ve got all his books, continued the barber.
