[<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun Footnote BlobObject DragDrop SCXW107763798 BCX8\"><span class=\"Superscript SCXW107763798 BCX8\" data-fontsize=\"12\">3]<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW107763798 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW107763798 BCX8\"> <span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\">New Social<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\"> <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\">history is the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\">most referred form in recent use. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\">The studies became widespread after the publication of E.P Thompson\u2019s \u201cThe Making of the English Working <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\">C<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\">lass\u201d<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\"> the book shows the development <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\">of the working class in England from 1780-1832. The time span covered<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\"> <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\">emphasizes the growing consciousness of the working class in England<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\">; they began to disassociate themselves with the greater state and instead moving in their own greater interests. [<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun Footnote BlobObject DragDrop SCXW111852318 BCX8\"><span class=\"Superscript SCXW111852318 BCX8\" data-fontsize=\"12\">4]<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW111852318 BCX8\"> E.P Thompson commonly identified as a Marxist historian and he widely expanded Social History and socialism through his written work as well as his work as a leader of the peace movement during the Cold War.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"indent\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">E. P<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"> Thompson\u2019s \u201cThe Making of the English Working Class\u201d <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">is one of the most influential<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"> historical writings in the second half of the 20<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun Superscript SCXW69487306 BCX8\" data-fontsize=\"12\">th<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"> century as well as one of the most cited pieces of text<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"> by other historians. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">The book created a wider meaning to the class sys<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">tem in the U.K, especially the working class<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">Thompson\u2019s work in this book touched on the working class becoming its own political being. The class being the lowest of the low in the period and working in horrible conditions with little rights. The conditions in <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">which <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">they<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"> worked <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">normalized<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"> up until the point of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">1830,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"> <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">when<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"> in Thompson\u2019s eyes the class <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">formed its own political identity and began to create <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">upheaval <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\">regarding<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW69487306 BCX8\"> their human rights and economic structure. [<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun Footnote BlobObject DragDrop SCXW69487306 BCX8\"><span class=\"Superscript SCXW69487306 BCX8\" data-fontsize=\"12\">5] <span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW4518995 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW4518995 BCX8\">Thompson looked to <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW4518995 BCX8\">create a wider narrative for the working class in England which was much <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW4518995 BCX8\">overlooked by other theorists of the time with the growth of English democratic capitalism. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW4518995 BCX8\">The Making <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW4518995 BCX8\">creates the narrative for the artisans and shows their day-to-day <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW4518995 BCX8\">lives and the struggles that they faced. [<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun Footnote BlobObject DragDrop SCXW264597674 BCX8\"><span class=\"Superscript SCXW264597674 BCX8\" data-fontsize=\"12\">6]<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">As turmoil grew within the communist party and the Soviet Union invaded Hungary E.P Thompson and many others made the decision to leave <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">the communist party all together. The direction in which the party was headed did not align with Thompson<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">\u2019s views as a \u201csocialist humanist.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> Thompson then sought out to create a journal in which explained some of the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">new <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">ideas<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">regarding<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> Marxism, Communism, democratic and labor movement ideas.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> This was called \u201c<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">t<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">he New <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">Reasoner\u201d<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> launched in 1957 and then <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">later merged into the publication with the New Left review<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> The \u201cNew Reasoner\u201d was the foundation of the New Left.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">The <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">N<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">ew <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">L<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">eft was a group of leftist<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> dissident Marxists<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">that were advocates for the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">disarmament<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> of nuclear weapons<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> in the 1950s and 60s<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> formed during the cold war divide<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">.[<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun Footnote BlobObject DragDrop SCXW264597674 BCX8\"><span class=\"Superscript SCXW264597674 BCX8\" data-fontsize=\"12\">7]<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">Even before leaving the Communist party, Thompson was a strong member of the Communist-supported peace movement, which was anti-nuclear bomb and pro peace<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">Thompson felt that the cold war was a major fracture in the world and creating peace and healing was just as important as the removal of nuclear missiles. Thompson <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">became a forefront advocate for the disarmament of nuclear weaponry <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">he gave many strong speeches <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">regarding<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\"> Britain\u2019s involvement in NATO a<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">nd his quote \u201cNATO out of Britain, and Britain out of NATO.\u201d <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">Large crowds gathered in protest in British involvement in the Cold war and the push for a nuclear free Europe<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">. E.P Thompson was never one to be quiet when it came to the involvement of nuclear weapons and the social movements ag<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW264597674 BCX8\">ainst them.
