{"id":30,"date":"2016-02-24T19:47:49","date_gmt":"2016-02-24T19:47:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/137.148.11.35\/wordpress\/lets-go-shopping\/?post_type=front-matter&#038;p=30"},"modified":"2018-02-28T09:28:01","modified_gmt":"2018-02-28T14:28:01","slug":"acknowledgments","status":"publish","type":"front-matter","link":"https:\/\/pressbooks.ulib.csuohio.edu\/lets-go-shopping\/front-matter\/acknowledgments\/","title":{"rendered":"Acknowledgments"},"content":{"raw":"This book is a tribute to the eight major downtown Cleveland department stores and their many loyal customers.\u00a0 For over 150 years, these large stores dominated the local retail scene.\u00a0 They represented exciting places that not only provided a full range of goods and services\u00a0all under one roof, but also, offered a special shopping adventure every time their customers visited.\u00a0 I also wish to acknowledge the many men and women who dedicated their working lives to providing their customers with the best products and services year in and year out.\r\n\r\nA number of my colleagues and friends assisted me throughout this effort.\u00a0 Bill Beckenbach, an Urban Center Fellow at Cleveland State University, first approached me about writing this book.\u00a0 He believed that there was a need for such a study.\u00a0 Once I started writing, Bill provided worthwhile suggestions based on his own experiences as a born and bred Clevelander and local business leader.\u00a0 Mr. John S. Lupo, former President of Higbee\u2019s, offered a wealth of information and insight regarding the local retail scene especially from the 1960s to the 1990s.\r\n\r\nOthers assisting me in this endeavor included my longtime colleague and friend Mr. William C.
