Creating a Part for your Digital Humanities Project

This guide includes instructions for creating a “part” in our Pressbook. You will create a part to house all your labs and the final digital humanities project content that you create.

Adding a Part

    1. Be sure you are logged in to Pressbooks (You should see the Admin tab in your menu).Screenshot of Pressbooks menu with green circle around Admin tab
    2. Once you are logged in, you will be directed to the dashboard of our Pressbook. If not, click on the Admin tab.
    3. In the left hand menu, choose “Organize.”
    4. Click on “Add Part” from either the left menu or top menu.
    5. In the “Add New Part” screen, create a title for your project. This should be your project title (you can change it if you need to) and your last name. For example, Chains of Production, Chains of Protest: Women’s Peace Camps1981-2000 / Rose
    6. Click “Save”
    7. Once you save the part, go to the “Permalink” and click edit. Edit the “slug” of your project URL to your last name and dh. For example here the slug is highlighted: https://pressbooks.ulib.csuohio.edu/ppgsed24/part/rosedh/. The reason we do this is to keep the URL manageable. You don’t want to share URL with your entire title as the slug on your resume.
    8. Now that you have created your “part” you will use it as a space for all your labs and project content. This material will be added as a chapter.

Adding a Chapter

    1.  When you see the organize screen, scroll down to your new part labeled. Once there click on the “Add Chapter” in the lower right corner of the part.Screenshot of Pressbooks dashboard with "Add Chapter" circled in green
    2. In the “Add New Chapter” screen, type in your desired title. For labs, the title should include the lab name and your last name. For example: Oral History- Rose.  Click “Create” in the right side menu. Once you do this, the URL will be generated under your title. Be sure it is simple and readable. Edit it if needed and then save again. If you prefer to edit privately and publish when finished you can unclick the “Show in Web” box in the right menu. Be sure to save frequently as you work. Pressbooks does NOT autosave.
