Chapter 7 – Career Options in Local Government Management

7.8 Internships

An internship is a short-term professional experience that allows students or recent graduates to gain hands-on exposure to their field of interest while developing practical skills. Internships are a stepping stone for students pursuing careers in local government management, as they provide opportunities to work directly within government agencies, develop networks, and learn about day-to-day operations.

For Levin School majors, internships are strongly encouraged as a way to gain real-world experience and enhance their résumés. Students should contact Jennifer DiAngelo at j.diangelo@csuohio.edu for more information about internship opportunities. It is also advisable to seek out paid internships whenever possible, as these roles often demonstrate a higher level of organizational investment and provide both financial support and valuable experience.
