Chapter 4 – Networking & Finding Mentors
4.3 Dealing With Unwanted Attention
While most people you meet through networking are respectful and professional, you may encounter someone who makes you uncomfortable or crosses a line. Trust your instincts. You are under no obligation to follow up, meet, or maintain contact with anyone who behaves inappropriately.
If someone makes an unwanted advance or says something that feels off, end the conversation and move on. You can say you need to catch another session, meet a friend, or take a call. If the behavior happens in a setting connected to the Levin School or Cleveland State, let a faculty member or event organizer know so they can address it.
Your safety and comfort come first. Networking should help you grow, not put you in situations that feel wrong.
