Chapter 4 – Networking & Finding Mentors

4.6 Attend Levin School Events

Levin School events are a great way to connect with people who care about public service. The annual Norman Krumholz Seminar, coordinated by Dr. Beth Nagy, brings together students, faculty, alumni, and community leaders to discuss important issues in urban planning and public policy.

Alumni events, such as our 2024 homecoming party, give you a chance to meet graduates working in the field and learn what they’re doing now.

If you want a sense of what these gatherings feel like, watch this short video from the party to get sense of what these events look like.

When you attend these, talk to people. Ask them about their work or what brought them to the event. If you make a good connection, follow up afterward on LinkedIn or email.

You should also ask your professors to introduce you to their former students or people they know. These events can be the start of relationships that help you throughout your career, but only if you take the first step.
