Chapter 1 – Defining Public Service

1.8 CSU’s Office of Career Development & Exploration

To be competitive in the job market and to succeed at work, students need to build skills that complement classroom learning. Employers value professionalism, clear communication, and the ability to adapt in different settings.

CSU supports students through the Office of Career Development & Exploration. You can email careers@csuohio.edu to make an appointment or self-schedule through the office’s website.

Services include:

  • Resume and cover letter review
  • Help with professional presence
  • Networking guidance
  • Mock interviews, and
  • A professional photo for your LinkedIn profile via an on-campus photo booth

Taking advantage of these resources early and often will make you more prepared for internships, job searches, and advancement after graduation.

When to Use Career Services

  • First Year: Explore majors, careers, and start building your resume.
  • During Your Studies: Prepare for internships, practice interview skills, and strengthen your professional presence.
  • Before Graduation: Refine your job search strategy, connect with employers, and update your LinkedIn profile with a professional photo.

Career development is ongoing. You don’t need to wait until senior year to get started.
