Chapter 4 – Networking & Finding Mentors

4.2 Creating Your Networking Strategy

A strong networking strategy starts with knowing where you want to go. Identify your short-term career goals, such as landing an internship or developing a skill, and your long-term goals, such as securing a leadership role or working in a specific field. With those targets in mind, decide how and with whom you will build relationships.

Avoid common mistakes that can weaken your network. Focusing only on high-profile people while ignoring peers and others in your field can leave you with a narrow, less supportive network.
