Chapter 2 – Public Service Through History

Public service has a long and complex history, evolving significantly across different cultures and eras. Understanding this history helps you appreciate how this concept has evolved and shaped societies and governments around the world.

It also helps us see how different this idea is from systems that prioritize self-interest, power, and personal gain. Public service is fundamentally differentways of thinking that focus only on benefiting oneself, gaining power, or achieving personal goals. Public service is about putting the needs of the community or society first, while those other systems prioritize individual or selfish interests.
