Instructor Quick Start Guide

Create a list of courses you teach or have taught in GenEd08. Then, for each course:

  • Decide if you will continue to offer this course as part of the Inquiry Core Curriculum. If you will sunset the course or offer it without being part of the new Core Curriculum, notify your department chair or school director. In making this decision, keep the following in mind:
    • Existing GenEd08 courses that are 300- or 400-level will not be eligible for the new core. All Core Curriculum courses must be offered at the 100- or 200-level.
    • Core Curricular courses cannot also be Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) or Speaking Across the Curriculum (SPAC) courses. If submitting a current WAC/SPAC course for the new core curriculum, it will lose its WAC/SPAC status. Similarly, if submitting a course under the recently updated WAC guidelines, it will not be eligible for submission as part of the Core Curriculum.
  • Think about the learning outcomes, how do they fit in the Inquiry Core Curriculum framework?
    • Which Core Competencies does your course address? You will need to include at least one Signature Assignment to assess these in your course. You will need a signature assignment for each core competency your course addresses. One assignment could assess multiple competencies.
  • Do you know of other courses that fit well with yours and unite around a common problem or theme? Could you develop a pathway with your colleagues that includes this course?
  • Submit your revised or new course to Curriculog to make sure it is approved by UCC by October 31, 2024. Follow these steps https://pressbooks.ulib.csuohio.edu/corecurriculum/chapter/submitting-a-course/
