Chapter 4. Encouraging Students to Be Their Authentic Selves

In an inclusive classroom, students are supported and encouraged to be their authentic selves, their differences celebrated as assets, not deficits to be overcome. This section provides guidance on how to welcome diverse students in your classroom (Level 1), how to monitor and adjust the classroom climate throughout the semester (Level 2), and how to address marginalizations and trauma in the classroom (Level 3).  The strategies in this section are meant to be utilized throughout a semester as you engage with students and work through emerging classroom events.
