Teaching with Objects

Guide for Cleveland State University Instructors: Requesting an Object Visit at CSU

This is a guide for CSU instructors who would like to request an object based learning visit from the Education Art Collection. All instructors at CSU are welcome to submit requests.

Instructors should start the planning process at least 6 weeks prior to your requested visit date. These visits are made possible by our partnership between the CSU History Department and the Cleveland Museum of Art and are granted on a first come, first served basis. Contact the CSU Director of Digital Humanities, Shelley Rose (shelley.rose@csuohio.edu) with any questions.

Planning the Visit: 6 weeks before your class

  1. Sign up for your desired class and semester at CSU Instructor EAC Object Visit Request – Fill out form
  2. Contact Sabine Kretzschmar, Director of the CMA Education Art Collection, at skretzschmar@clevelandart.org or ArtToGo@clevelandart.org with the following information:
    • The date, time, and location of the proposed class.
    • What kind of class, what is the subject?
      • A broader topic will have a better chance of having multiple objects than a very specific topic.
    • How many students are expected?
  3. Set up a mandatory in-person meeting at the CMA to pick objects for your class.
  4. The Education Art Collection Director and her staff will create and send a PowerPoint presentation and the list of objects by the week of the EAC visit.
  5. Once your date is confirmed with CMA, contact the Director of Digital Humanities, Shelley Rose (shelley.rose@csuohio.edu) with the day, time, current class location and class size for your EAC visit.
    • Collaborate with DH director to reserve an active learning classroom (typically BH 420, BH 441 or BH 444) for your visit.
    • Confirm with History Department that Sabine Kretzschmar is issued and sent a parking pass.
