Case Western Reserve University Archives

Room 2, Adelbert Hall
Case Western Reserve University
Cleveland, Ohio 44106

The Case Western Reserve University Archives was established by the Board of Trustees of the University in 1967 as the successor to the archives of Western Reserve University and Case Institute of Technology. It is the repository of the office files of the administrative offices, schools and departments of the University, personal papers of faculty, trustees and administrators and photographs and publications. The holdings date from the period of the founding of Western Reserve College in 1826 and consist of approximately 5,000 linear feet of records.

The collecting policy of the Archives is limited to records pertaining to the University and to individuals associated with it but it is important to note that Case Western Reserve University has played a key role in the cultural, civic and educational life of Cleveland and the Western Reserve since 1826. For example, information concerning the history and development of University Circle and its institutions, the Cleveland Commission on Higher Education, the Welfare Federation (Federation for Community Planning) and economic and sociological studies of various Cleveland neighborhoods are included in the holdings of the Archives.

The Archives repository is located in the Quail Building on the campus and is open from 8:30 to 4:30, Monday through Friday. For an appointment contact the University Archivist at (216) 368-4289 or 3320.
