Chapter 22 – Local Elections & Campaigning

22.3 Election Administration

Local government elections in Ohio are administered by county boards of elections. These boards are responsible for overseeing all aspects of the election process within their respective counties. This includes voter registration, maintaining voter rolls, verifying candidate petitions, preparing ballots, managing polling places, and ensuring the accurate counting of votes.

Each county board of elections operates under the guidance and regulations set forth by the Ohio Secretary of State, who provides uniform standards and procedures to ensure fair and consistent elections across the state. The boards are composed of an equal number of members from the two major political parties, ensuring bipartisan oversight of the election process.
