Chapter 20 – The Relationship Between Government & the Private Sector

20.2 Regulations

Regulations are rules set by the government to control how things are done. These rules are meant to protect people, the environment, and ensure fair practices. You’ll remember the term from previous chapters. Examples of regulations include:

  • Environmental regulations – Rules that limit pollution to protect air and water quality.
  • Health and safety regulations – Rules that make sure workplaces are safe for employees.
  • Building codes – Standards that ensure buildings are constructed safely.

While regulations are often necessary, they can also impact how businesses operate. Some regulations require businesses to spend money on new equipment or change how they do things, which can be costly. However, regulations can also lead to benefits like a cleaner environment and safer workplaces, which are good for everyone in the long run.
